Pitt joins '12 Years a Slave,' Kerry Washington lands 'Django'

We knew he was set to produce "Twelve Years A Slave", but now Brad Pitt may be getting some starring action as well.

According to The Playlist, Pitt will have a role in the film, which is being produced by his Plan B production company. Steve McQueen is at the helm, and Pitt's "Inglourious Basterds" co-star Michael Fassbender is also part of the cast.
The role of Solomon Northup, whose 1853 autobiography the film is based on, will be played by "Salt" and "American Gangster" actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.The movie will chronicle the years that Northup, who was an educated and married free black New Yorker, spent as a slave after being kidnapped in Washington, D.C.

Pitt's Plan B declined to offer more details about the project or the actor's role.
In other casting news, The Wrap reports Kerry Washington has officially joined Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" as Broomhilda, the role she was rumored to be in the running for when Jamie Foxx's casting news was announced.
Tarantino's project follows Foxx's Django, a freed slave who attempts to rescue his wife Broomhilda from a sadistic slave master with the help of a bounty hunter, as portrayed by Christoph Waltz.
Leonardo DiCaprio will play the nightmarish slave owner, and Samuel L. Jackson is on board as his right-hand man - or, as Jackson himself put it in a recent interview with New York Magazine, "I play Stephen, the quintessential faithful house n---."
Of his role in "Django," Jackson commented, "I will go from being the most revered black man in America to being the most hated cinematic Negro in the history of film."
"Django Unchained" is set to open December 25, 2012, while Pitt's "Twelve Years A Slave" isn't scheduled to arrive until 2014.
