A strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck India's northeastern state of Sikkim late Sunday, knocking out telephone lines in the region. Tremors were felt as far away as the Indian capital, New Delhi.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. The epicenter of the quake was about 60 kilometers northwest of Sikkim's capital, Gangtok, near the Indian border with Nepal.
